    I attended an academic awards dinner recently for our History Department, and one of the female students who was a distinguished honoree kept texting and websurfing on her cellphone during the entire dinner, mostly ignoring her food and completely ignoring the guests around her. I almost felt like saying something but bit my tongue. Nevertheless, I thought it was unspeakably rude and inappropriate behavior for this semi-formal occasion. She may have been academically gifted, but her "Emotional Intelligence" was deficient.
